SELECTIVE MEMORY

Maryland born, Detroit-based Martha Mysko will be presenting a site-specific installation paired along side “Homemade Ice Cream”. Employing the language of painting, Mysko organizes found objects, materials, and digital media into thickly layered and color-saturated environments. Decorative throw pillows, painted cinder bloc, a pair of Reebok hightops, photo-printed fabrics, video playing on a tube televisions, and other various objects fall from the ceiling, protrude from the wall, and spill onto the floor. Mysko finds potential in second-hand items and in kitsch that question conceptions of taste and value. “Selective Memory” creates fractured narratives that disrupt our cultural and personal associations tied to these objects through formal play and explorations of painterly space.
